This position will ensure the Indian Affairs Department (IAD) is gathering and using data to assist in policy, program, and budget development. This position will assist agency staff to connect their work to metrics to better track investments and outcomes and communicate this to stakeholders and the public. This position will aid in tracking and analyzing the impact of the agency work with Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes (NPTs) and NM Native American citizens.
This position will collect and define various data points for tribal communities and Native American citizens in New Mexico, such as providing statistics of Indian populations, economic factors, and other data areas to assist in policy development. This position will define and study areas of interest and concern for the Agency and gather data for recommendations and potential solutions; assign values to different components, and determine relationships between them; work with others in the organization to ensure successful implementation of plans.
DUTIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
- Working with IAD staff to analyze the effectiveness of programs and policies and consult with IAD leadership for new policy development
- Develop and modify existing databases and methodologies for capturing and maintaining data
- Analyze and report data to identify trends and issues, and develop recommendations to support department(s) objectives
- Develop procedures and processes to communicate complex information to leadership, staff, tribal leaders, state leadership, legislators, and the general public
- Provide training to agency staff, stakeholders, and community on data literacy
- Identify mechanisms to support tribal data sovereignty across all programs and initiatives
- Responsible for the data to be utilized for reports, presentations, visuals, talking points, and other work products
CUSTOMERS
Indian Affairs Department leadership and staff, and Nations, Tribes, and Pueblos, and legislators, and stakeholders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience directly related to the position in providing GIS support, research, statistics, computer science, data analysis, accounting, auditing, finance, economics, business, public administration, budgeting, management, and/or systems analysis or related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone and personal computer usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some statewide travel may be required.
