Which companies sponsor visas for technical architects in Maryland?
Maryland's largest technical architect sponsors are federal IT contractors and defense firms, including Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, SAIC, Northrop Grumman, and Peraton. Large commercial employers like Marriott International and T. Rowe Price also sponsor technical architects. Consulting firms such as Accenture and Deloitte Federal Services maintain significant Maryland offices and regularly file H-1B petitions for senior architecture roles.
Which visa types are most common for technical architect roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa for technical architect positions in Maryland, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field. L-1A and L-1B visas are also used when candidates transfer from an overseas office of a multinational employer. Some contractors with Canadian or Mexican architects may use TN visas under USMCA.
Which cities in Maryland have the most technical architect sponsorship jobs?
Bethesda and Rockville in Montgomery County lead for technical architect sponsorship, driven by federal agency proximity and a dense cluster of IT contractors. Baltimore is the second major hub, with healthcare IT firms, financial institutions, and Johns Hopkins-affiliated organizations hiring regularly. Columbia and Annapolis Junction also see meaningful activity, particularly from defense and intelligence community contractors operating in Howard and Anne Arundel counties.
How to find technical architect visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship status, so you can search technical architect roles in Maryland without sorting through positions that won't support work visa candidates. The platform surfaces openings from federal contractors, commercial tech employers, and consulting firms across the Baltimore-Washington corridor, saving time on outreach to companies unlikely to sponsor.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for technical architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Maryland's proximity to federal agencies means many technical architect roles require security clearances, which can complicate visa sponsorship since clearance eligibility is generally limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Focus your search on commercial contractor roles or positions explicitly listed as open to visa candidates. Maryland's strong university pipeline through the University of Maryland College Park also means competition for sponsored roles can be competitive among OPT candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical architect jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
